Wheeling Suspension Bridge was the first bridge over the Ohio River. The bridge is located in Wheeling in West Virginia in the United States.
It was long planned a bridge over the river. Charles Ellet and John A. Roebling was inverted to make suggestions on the design. Charles Ellet won the competition and started construction, the bridge opened in 1849. The bridge was the largest suspension bridge in the world between 1849 and 1851. The bridge has a span of a 308 meters. The bridge collapsed in 1854 after following a storm and was rebuilt.
